There's something about the beginning of August that invites us to slow down. Summer is still here, but it feels softer somehow. The evenings linger a little longer, and there's more time to notice the small details we might otherwise pass by.

This month, I've found myself thinking about the stories hidden in the objects we keep. The vintage treasures discovered on travels, the forgotten pieces tucked away in drawers, and the jewellery that's broken but never truly reached the end of its journey.

It felt like the perfect moment to share a little about the heart behind my jewellery, and why I'm always drawn to materials with a past.

Material with a Past

Materials arrive at my table already carrying stories.

Some come from small independent shops, chosen slowly and with care. Others have travelled further, gathered on walks, tucked away in drawers, or rescued from jewellery that broke but was never ready to be forgotten. Every bead, pearl, and pendant arrives with a history long before it becomes part of something new.

I'm drawn to materials that feel lived-in. Glass that catches the light in unexpected ways. Pearls with gentle variations. Pieces that don't strive for perfection, but instead feel honest. These small differences shape every design, creating conversations between texture, colour, and time rather than exact replicas.

Working this way is also my quiet way of caring for the planet. Whenever possible, I choose to revive rather than replace. A forgotten pendant, a strand of vintage beads, or a single imperfect pearl can all become part of a new story. It's a slower, more thoughtful kind of sustainability, one rooted in appreciation rather than excess.

Of course, materials with a past don't always behave predictably. Some settle slightly off-centre. Others soften and develop character as they're worn. I welcome that. Jewellery made from pieces with history should be allowed to keep evolving.

When you wear something from my table, you're carrying more than a design. You're carrying layers of story, a past honoured, a present lived in, and space left open for whatever comes next.
